The Gum Springs Youth Athletic Association (GSYAA) was organized in 1975 under The Saunders B. Moon Community Organization’s Director, the late Calvin L. Ferguson.  Members who helped organize the program were the late James L. Funderburke, Julian Gaither, Horace Collins, Ollis Locke, the late George Jones and community parents.  GSYAA was organized for children to compete in other organized sports programs.

The first team was called the Junior Knights Little League Baseball Team.

In 1976, GSYAA joined the Fairfax County Youth Football League.  Through the years, the Gum Springs Advisory Board along with Fairfax County Recreation Services and many other donors, member and parents gave generously to support the program.  Parents volunteered their time to provide children between the ages of 6 and 16 years of age an opportunity to participate in the Fairfax County Youth League Sports Program.

GSYAA reorganized in June 2009 electing a new vice president, football commissioner and assistant football commissioner.  Its membership is comprised of volunteers, coaches and parents.
